A Visit to the Tihar Jail (22.06.2011)

Under the human touch programme, SVCT provides financial aid to the families of the convicts of tihar jail. For this purpose, there is a need to interact with the convicts.
On 22nd June 2011, 3 volunteers along with the administrator Mr. A.K.Passy went to visit the tihar jail to meet convicts. They were invited to the office of Mr. Charan Singh, welfare officer, Tihar Jail-5. Mr. Singh explained them how the jail system works and shared its various rules and regulations. After that, Lalit (S/o Ram Singh), an inmate was called upon. He was asked about his requirements and problems. He was happy to know that SVCT is duly taking care of his family requirements which included school fees for his children and few more stationery items. The volunteers also met the superintendent Mr. Rakesh Khanna. It is evident that even the officers of tihar jail are working hard to make the lives of the convicts and their families better. It was really an enriching experience for the SVCT team.
