Report about visiting inmate family

No children lost their chance to get education even if there are born in inmate family. I really agree with this idea and the feeling are become stronger after I visited inmate family’s house.

The house I visited was in Karala, New Delhi. A mother and her two children, Nagma (age 6 , girl) and Anish ( age 4 , boy) are living there. The husband’s sister sometimes come the house to help her but usually the mother takes care of two. So she can’t do any jobs and she cannot help getting income from her or her husband relatives but it isn’t enough for them. Therefore, they have to spend tough and poor lifestyle.
I just have stayed in short time but I can understand how they are living. And I also can see how SVCT work for inmate family and how SVCT contribute the society. SVCT provides education fees, school uniform and school bags, books, etc…for inmate family and SVCT also visits inmate family’s house 2 or 3 times per a month to survey their condition and to hear the needs what they want. Sometimes people forget to help poor people after they gave something or support them. But SVCT is not only provides education fees but also keep on touching with them to visit and survey their house. I think SVCT is really helpful and contributable NGO for poor people and the society.
Through the visiting inmate family, I felt like seeing real India. Of course, I’m an intern and just works in 6 weeks so it just means I’ve seen a part of real India but I could learn a lot of thing through these experiences.

I want to say thanks SVCT for giving me such a nice experience.

Report about RTEDU

About RTE
A Two day National conference was organized by Department of Education, St. Aloysius’ College (Autonomous) Jabalpur l (MP)  on Right to Education: Challenges and Opportunities at College Campus, on 31st August 2012 to 1st September 2012, where most of NGO’s,  &  representatives  of  Central Government,   State government,&  Local authority,  School, have participated. SVCT was also invited  in this conference. About 400 to 500 participants are attended.
I thought RTE play a great role to the society. The trip to the Jabalpur reaffirms me the importance of RTE. There so many NGO that has different purpose and also so many people who belong in different social position. For example, one of the NGO presented the inequality of education between rural and urban area. According to the their story, a student lives in urban area can often get better education than rural one so they claimed we should correct the distortion to give the same level of the education that can get in the urban area. But in the RTE, we can cooperate together and we can also make an effort toward one goal that corrects the inequality of right to the education. “Every child of the age of six to fourteen years shall have a right to free and compulsory education in a neighborhood school till completion of elementary education.” This shows the right of child to free and compulsory education. Parents and guardian have a responsibility to protect the right of child education but we also have the responsibility to protect it. Because we received the benefit from the society  so we should return the benefit to the society. I think education is the basis of society. Each people who received the education determine the society good or bad. So correcting the inequality of right to the education makes our future society. What is the future of society? How is the future of society like? Depend on us. Therefore, RTE is not Government‘s problem, is not Local authority or school, parents and guardian’s problem. It’s our problem. This is what I learned from the RTE.

 The work we’ve done
I along with Gaurav Passy represent SVCT participated in RTEDU-2012 in Jabalpur at St.Aloysius College on 31st Sep-1st Sep .The main purpose of this Conference is to discuss the global issues of Right to Education (RTE) and the enforcement of the act which provides a unique opportunity to mount a mission encompassing all the discourses to fulfill the goal of universal elementary education and to include quality education for all. Gaurav Passy made the presentation on Power Point. He spoke about how SVCT has playing a big role in RTEDU. SVCT gets standing ovation on this presentation. Then District Collector appreciated the work of SVCT during his speech. We handed out brochure about SVCT activities, Breast Cancer awareness literature and anti tobacco literature to the participants, as well as to l college students.  After the presentation, we visited class to class and talked about what is social work in front of them.  I share my experience with them about SVCT, how I came to know, SVCT work is really tremendous, they are helping convict kids is such a way that’s touched to my heart. My dream is fulfill to come to India to know how to help other & to do for other. I came to know this from Japan.

  About Jabalpur
Stayed in Jabalpur gave to me a great experience and it also gives me an opportunity to grow up. Jabalpur peoples are very friendly and really open-minded so I can blend into community soon.
They welcomed me kindly with big applause. That experience gave me a confidence that can speak in front of many people and gratitude of their kindness. It works like an obstacle between I and Jabalpur people. I would have communicated with Jabalpur people deeply. That’s experience gave me an important lesson to me. Jabalpur food was also nice. I could eat lots of tasty food.

On the way back from Jabalpur, a man in the train asked to me one question.

“Can you say you want to help poor people from bottom of your heart?”

Of course my answer is “Yes”. But to say the truth, it takes a few second to say the word “Yes”. Actually, I confused his question. “Contribute to poor people.” That’s one of the reason I came here but I took a few second to pull out my answer. I don’t know why it happened but I think it represented my immaturity for a social worker. I want to thank you for the man and I also realized I have to learn about what is social work, how is social work like. That’s also a big lesson to me.

SVCT, Mr. Passy, Gaurav Passy, Thank you for giving me such a great experience.  I really appreciate it from bottom of my heart.

How long can one wait for justice?

7 out of every 10 person in jail is a prisoner without conviction

All people who are convicted are not per say criminals. They are more often victim of circumstances. They too ware normal citizens who made a mistake & ultimately they too will join main stream society and therefore they should be given a chance to change. We at SVCT strongly believe that human beings are not bad but circumstances make them different from other people. Therefore, SVCT is trying to help these people better life hence providing chance for change.

CBI the light of hope to someone who deserves a second chance. As we all know that a crime, more often than not, is the result of negative circumstances.
Join us and save a soul, as the true solution in all such cases is rooting out the reason for the crime itself, and not out-casting the person from society.

Our Methodology
  • First, we train the inmates in different vocations, and we give them adequate certifications
  • Then, we teach them through various classroom techniques how to become self-reliant and build self-worth in order to live a dignified life after release
  • Next, we create awareness among the youth and business enterprises to rehabilitate these unfortunate beings with open minds
  • Then, we help the inmates in getting suitable jobs
  • And, last but not least, we provide continued support through adequate finance to those requiring special attention

This is the items manufactured by the inmates bear the grand Tihar Jail.

Let's not punish them for something they did not do.

Is it their fault that someone from their family is in jail?

A person who reaches confinement in prison becomes a stigma to the society. So much so that most of the times even his family members are not spared of criticisms, comments and wrong judgments. And the most unfortunate and the worst sufferers of all this turn out to be their kids who played absolutely no part in the crime. Their childhood is rudely snatched away and they are sent on constant hiding from all that the society has to say about something they hardly understand.

Children are like flowers that blossom in the garden of God as they are the harbingers of eternal joy to all those around. Let's not punish them for something they did not do. Let's make their lives as joyful as it was always meant to be. Let's give them an equal playing field and allow them to run as far as they desire.

Our action

After receiving the applications, the staff conducts a survey, to verify  the information and the need for school fees or any other assistance.
  • School Fee to the wards of  the convicts,
  • School uniform (both summer & winter) along with shoes.
  • Books, school bags and stationery.

Our staff/volunteer visits the convicts’ house for regular follow-ups regarding their needs and also counsel them to lead a life of dignity and respect.

2011
In the first year itself the Human Touch Child Education program took up the educational responsibility of 91 children of 44 convicts and provided them with school fees, school bags, books, stationeries, uniform for both winter/summer along with shoes.

2011-2012
In the subsequent year the number of children of convicts supported by the human touch child education program increased greatly and the number of children being supported by the trust today stands at 369 students. In this year the Trust has also extend their helping hand to those students who want to pursue graduation/post graduation and other professional courses, so that they can establish themselves and can support there families.
